Make a sweet garden keepsake

Personal gifts and cards are more appreciated then ever these days. Here’s a simple way to create a lovely card or piece of small art that would make anyone smile.

•Start by taking some close up photos (your phone is perfect for this) of flowers in your garden, a park or even a garden center store. Make sure to get as close up as you can, and in good light (shade that isn’t too dark). Try shooting some leaves that you find interesting as well.

•Next, print the photos on any type of regular printer paper. Cut them out carefully. If there are too many intricate details, an X-acto knife is best.

•Find some heavy card stock you like and cut it to your desired size. I use pre-scored, 7x10’ card stock paper from Red River paper, But any heavy paper will do.

• You can leave the paper white, or paint it with watercolor (as I did here) or acrylics to make the background pop.

• Arrange your flowers in a pleasing pattern, then glue with a household glue stick. You may want to add a lady bug or butterfly drawn by hand or copied from a copy-right free illustration.

• Be sure to sign your work! You can send it as a special card for a friend or frame it as a gift. I’d love to see what you create, send me a photo!

Small clippers are easiest to work with.

You can use any type of paint; I love gouache.

A household glue stick works great!
