Where will flowers take you?

Six years ago, when I started my first really garden, it never occurred to me that what I was planting would change my life. At first, the biggest change was in my mental health. It was the beginning of the pandemic, we had moved across the country and I didn’t know anyone except family, and I needed a hip replacement. It wasn’t an easy time, but planting corms and tubers and tending to them as they grew gave me a new sense of purpose and helped to lift me out of the ever present sadness I felt at the time.

Within a couple years I was taking “portraits” of my flowers and entering competitions and calls for art. On a lark, I entered a prestigious art competition and actually won. This propelled me into a big year of creating a real business that revolved around my flower work. I made original paper collages and then turned the artwork into products and prints. It was a lot of trial and error, but this year I’m excited about my offerings.

Last week the delightful magazine, “In Her Garden” by Stampington Press released their Spring 2026 with a 7 page spread about my garden. What a thrill, and what a change in my life trajectory! I often wonder now what my life would have looked like if I never planted those first flowers. At that time I could feel my self aging and depressed. The flowers helped me fight both of those things and I am forever grateful.

So, my question to you is “If you love flowers, where can they lead you?” Maybe it will be to a more beautiful life with gorgeous blooms in your home every day. Maybe to a whole new career as a floral event designer, flower farmer, or artist using your garden as inspiration for your work. The possibilities are endless if you just allow yourself a chance to dream. I believe all nature is healing
